#CTC359 CASE a Die Project

I've loosely used the card at the top of page 16 of the Mini Catalogue:

Loosely as in I saw red tulips and the need to make a special card for an 80th birthday for someone who likes the colour red. That's when I veered away from the original CASE card.

Using the Tulips Dies, I've diecut multiple pieces of tulip petals from Real Red cardstock and pieced them together in as many different ways as I could think of. Here's an idea of the pieces I used to make, some may be the same, but most of them are different, by folding one left over right and another right over left, or by using a wide insert, or a narrow insert or a couple of narrows. So many options:

I've sponged edges and tops with Cherry Cobbler ink and a sponge then pieced a stem, using both thicknesses to each of the flowers. I've diecut multiple stems and leaves using Garden Green cardstock.

I've then created a Pop Up Box card using a piece of Basic Black cardstock, the full width of A4 by 6" in length. I chose two sheets of Hand-Penned DSP for the background and adhered them to the base card. I pieced the tulips to the black inserts before I stuck the inserts inside the box so I could fiddle with the placement. 

I've tied Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon around the front flap and added a double bow. I've used the (retired) Large Numbers for the Basic Black and Real Red numbers and adhered them together slightly offset then added these to the front flap. .

The Basic Black butterfly was cut with the Brilliant Wing dies and adhered over a piece of Real Red cardstock and fussy cut around as the co-ordinating blank die left a red border around the butterfly which I didn't want. I've popped that onto the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The edging was made using a strip of Garden Green cardstock A4 width and diecutting the edge then lining it up again and diecutting the rest of the width. I then adhered some Adhesive sheet to the back of a strip of A4 cardstock the same width and ran this through the same way. I then snipped off all the stems and sponged with Cherry Cobbler ink, removed the backing from the adhesive sheet and stuck my flowers onto their stems:

This strip was then attached to the lower edge of the card and wrapped around to the back where the ends are hidden by my greeting panel.

The Happiest of Birthdays was used for the greeting, stamped in Garden Green ink onto a panel of Basic White with another tulip added to finish.

It's not needed until Wednesday so the pressure is off a little now, and it won't be being posted, so I just need to make the envelope. Hope my mother-in-law appreciates the effort involved. I've adhered post it note strips to the back of the numbers, so at a later date she can remove the numbers and have an everlasting bouquet for her dresser.

Triple Easel Panel for an 18th Birthday

18th birthdays call for a bit more effort in a birthday card. I was looking for something different and turned to Splitcoast Stampers for some inspiration. The first thing to catch my eye was a project from Mary Deatherage using the Penguin Playmates DSP which you can only get for a few more weeks as a Sale-a-bration freebie.

I must admit, I only looked briefly at the card, and went with my instincts from there, but you can click on her name above to be directed to her instructions.. I didn't use the measurements as often they are using Letter size cardstock rather than A4. Because of the three panels I decided to use the width of the cardstock and cut it at 6" long because that was easy to divide into thirds.

The base card is Pool Party. The Pattern Party DSP was cut to 1 3/4" x 3 7/8" then diagonally and adhered to the panels. Poppy Parade cardstock was used for the numbers (retired Large Numbers dies) and the balloons which were punched with the (retired) Balloon Bouquet punch. The numbers were embossed with the Ornate Floral 3D embossing folder. 

The top penguin and polar bear were fussy cut from the Playful Penguins DSP, with the centre penguin being punched with the Penguin Builder punch from the same DSP. The balloons have had a bit of highlighting added with the Stampin' Chalk Marker.

All the pieces were added to the lower half of the panels ensuring no stray adhesive. 

The little parcels were stamped from Penguin Place in Flirty Flamingo and Granny Apple Green, fussy cut and popped in place with Stampin' Dimensionals. This is what creates the pieces for the easels to stay in place.

I've added another punched penguin to the inside of the card and a greeting from Handsomely Suited in Flirty Flamingo.

The balloons have some (retired) Silver Metallic Thread tied around the end and the polar beer has had it threaded through the DSP and adhered behind it, with the penguin having the thread attached to the back of it's flipper.

CASEing the Catty - #CTC157 Case a Colour Combo

This week you can use either catalogue to case a colour combination.  Loads of choice!!  Play along and link up on the right...

I'm sure this colour combination features more than once through the catalogue, however my inspiration came from page 35 - Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist and Soft Sky...

The young lady of the house turned 17 this week, so it was fitting to tie this in with a last minute birthday card... and you also get a sneak peak of a stamp set you can earn with a purchase of $110 in the upcoming Sale-a-bration promotion! - Party Pandas, they are already proving to be popular among demonstrators.

Pandas love bamboo - I know, but I wanted some colour, so chose the floral pattern from Awesomely Artistic to combine with my little party bears.  I stamped the pandas directly onto my top layer and masked them off, then the background image. I used my aqua brush and pretty much slip slopped colour so that I got different depths of colour without being too precise.  Yes, there are only three marker colours used - the hat is not using the aqua brush, but the marker direct to paper.  I then used the eclipse technique which is trending at prsent and diecut the Large Numbers from the top layer and layered with another set cut from Basic Black, as I didn't want the numbers to get too last.Popped up on mini dimensionals - they are the perfect size if you haven't tried them yet, you must. A quick tie off with some linen thread, and simply matted with Lemon Lime Twist and onto a thick Whisper White base.

The middle is matted the same with the final panda image of the trio in this set of stamps, and the heart coloured with Berry Burst too. The greeting is also from that set, along with Hi or Love You... too cute.  Of course I couldn't help but photograph him with a little memento from her trip to China this year.

This theme lead me in the direction of an upcoming birthday card I needed to make, and my favourite go-to card for a 'Wow', the Tri-fold card.  Didn't remember how awkward these can be to photograph so apologies, and hope you get the idea.  Don't be put off if, it's not as hard as you think but if it isn't your thing, scroll through this post as I have a very quick and simple card with the same theme

This features a few more of my last hurrah's which I've been doing in my May posts.  Yes, sad to say The Wilderness Awaits and Wetlands are on the list, along with the 12"x12" Kraft cardstock, and previously mentioned Delightul Dijon cardstock and ink.  

My simple method of creating this card:  Cut base card of Kraft, 6" x 12", score at 2", 4" 8" and 10".  Rotate and line up at the 4 1/2" mark on your trimmer, cut from 1st score line to last score line, rotate 180 degrees and do this again (or 1 1/2" and 4 1/2" if that is easier). Then simply start at the first score and mountain fold, then valley fold. 2nd row, miss 1st score (hidden under the oval), then mountain and valley fold, and last row is same as 1st. From there my Early Espresso mats, are each 1/4" smaller than the measurement in kraft, and then the next layer of Whisper White, another 1/4" increment smaller again. I know it looks busy, but by keeping the layer of white crisp and choosing not to colour the images, I thought it masculine but not fussy.  The extra dimension stamped in Delightful Dijon is from Timeless Textures and the Large Numbers were cut in Delightful Dijon and Early Espresso, top layer embossed with the Hexagons Dynamic TIEF and coated with some Crystal Effects (now retired, but the Fine Tip Glue can be used as an alternative).  Folds up to fit in a normal envelope:

As promised, if you are feeling a little daunted, here's a quick card I put together featuring the same stamps sets, with a sneak peak of the new Wood Textures DSP stack, using the Layering Squares and Stitched Shapes framelits. Linen thread wrapped and tied off with a knot and the greeting from Wetlands die cut from another last hurrah, Tags and Labels framelits.

Balloon Birthday card

When this posts, I will be in Melbourne supporting my daughter's volleyball team - Burnside High School -  Go girls!!  While they are away one of the team will be celebrating her birthday, so here's I made this for the team to write in and if you have this set it may give you some inspiration for using it:

This card size is 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches.  The strips of colour behind the hot air balloon are easy as there is a die to cut it for you - go figure!  The greeting is from Tin of Cards and was stamped onto Whisper White then cut using the Stitched Shapes Framelits, (hopefully it won't be too long before these are back in the shop), the Rich Razzleberry circle was cut from the same dies. The colour I chose to contrast was Emerald Envy. The large numbers were cut from Silver glimmer paper, 'cos a girl has to have some bling.  You can't see the detail of the background in the top picture, but I used the Fluttering TIEF and will give you a different light and angle to make it easier.
