Mixing Brusho Crystal Colour with Fine Tip Glue

I'm not sure if anyone else has tried this yet, but I remember Sara Douglass showing the Fine Tip Glue mixed with reinker to colour a slimy monster and decided to have a play along the same lines.

I used a paint palette and put a few ml of fine tip glue into five holes, then tapped each of the five Brusho colours into the respective holes and mixed with toothpicks.  Then I played! I coloured more You're Inspiring daffodils (See my other colouring of these here and here), painted foil doillies and then took an A5 piece of glossy card and used it to clean my palette. I took a palette knife and took colour from each pot and smeared randomly on the glossy card until all my 'paint' was used, and the card was pretty much coloured - yes, it looks very messy but wasn't really then I left everything to dry.

From that A5 piece of 'messy' coloured card - this is what I was able to diecut:

And although I still have a few bits left over - these cards will help restock my stash and only need a greeting if I wish, or could simply be used as they are. Some backgrounds are DSP, others made using Brusho. I've used Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, Butterflies Thinlits, Bold Butterfly Thinlits, Stitched Shapes Framelits and Fluttering TIEF. A few iridescent sequins helped finish them off.

This is a closer up version of some aspects:

CASEing the Catty - #CTC143 Artistic Expression

Another chance for Artistic Expression this week - from pages 132-181.

I've chosen the top card from Pg 138, and pretty much just switched out colours.

First I chose my DSP, and it was Delightful Daisy, my colours just evolved from there. Not how I had imagined but happy with the result. There are five dragonflies in this card, first a body from the DSP, with a vellum detailed d-fly laid over, Wisteria Wonder stamped in Night of Navy with the dragonfly stamp and die cut with the outline shape again, then one of each size of the detailed dragonflies in Wisteria Wonder. They are all glued at the upper body only, so there is a lot of movement to this card which is hard to see in a photo. I have used a vellum scalloped layering circle for under the big dragonfly rather than the white, which you can only see when you go hunting for it. Greeting from Dragonfly Dreams which has been stamped off in Night of Navy for the repeat stamped background. A little silver metallic thread along with Night of Navy baker's twine for the bow. And rhinestones to finish.

I think I'll definitely do this card again, and will try it in different colours...  Thanks for stopping by, please carry on and visit Peta now:

Bumblees Galore

You know I love them! Bumblees! When the Global Design Project #GDP076 chose to case Kylie Bertucci this week, I had an idea of what I'd like to do, but didn't have a chance to sit and do it until now.

I die cut bumblebees from Basic Black with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, then adhered them to body size pieces of Crushed Curry. I recreated the same Basic Black discard with Delightful Dijon and embossed with the Hexagons Dynamic TIEF.  This was adhered to a slightly wider piece of Whisper White and the bumblebees were placed in position. The greeting is from Best Birds and I used the Stitched Shapes framelits to diecut, you just need to shift it for a 2nd cut to create the rectangle shape.  Keep reading after the first photo to see what else I did - told you I hate to waste!

I already had the Basic Black scrap which the bumblees had been cut from, and adhered it to a piece of Whisper White.  I then used the bumblebee image from Dragonfly Dreams to fill in the gaps before colouring with the new Watercolor Pencils. Thanks to Paula Dobson, for the colouring idea - loved how you shaded yours and it does make them appear more fluffy, making them pop!

I like them both, but can't decide which I like best!

But wait there's more... Remember the Sunburst birthday cards from my last post? I showed how I had stamped before I diecut the butterfly.  Check out what I did with the 'waste' piece of card:

I was happy to use a few pieces on this card that would likely have been in the bin.  Hope it leaves you feeling inspired to have a play with your scraps too.

Sunburst Birthday Cards

These cards met the brief for two challenges this week, and suited for two birthdays I had cards to make for.  I hate waste and often make two card bases (or more) when I break out the Sunburst thinlit.

The colours may not be to everyone's taste, but you could use the idea and try it with your favourites. The chosen array for Colour INKspiration #CI04 were Delightful Dijon, Elegant Eggplant, Whisper White and Crushed Curry, while the Global Design Project #GDP075 topic was "Winged Creatures".

Base card is Delightful Dijon, and I cut each out of Elegant Eggplant and Crushed Curry with the Sunburst Thinlit. As I still had some retired sticky sheets, I utilised those to piece the opposites together - voila two backgrounds, trimmed and matted with Whisper White.  I used a Layering Circles scallop with a Stitched Shapes Framelit circle for the Butterfly card, and a Swirly Bird shape for the Dragonfly Card. An Elegant Eggplant frame die cut with matching Rose Garden thinlit and Rose Wonder greeting stamped in Crushed Curry.  The winged creatures were raised with Stampin' Dimensionals.  If you want to know how I made the pattern on the butterfly, I used the Timeless Texture background stamped onto a scrap of Whisper White before die-cutting. The dragonfly was stamped after die cutting with the same image and I sponged around it with the Crushed Curry.

Hope you are feeling inspired, and thanks for stopping by.

Love a Challenge

After leaving for holiday, I learned we could apply to be an onstage display stamper in April, and the challenges continue!  I thought it was something I could try for and reading in a hurry, thought I had a few days up my sleeve, but thankfully checked again yesterday and had until today to post...  this is what I came up with:

The cards were kept clean and simple (if you know me, you'll know I struggle doing that!), so I stuck with a similar colour scheme, Night of Navy and Whisper White, Card 1 used a patchwork technique with the Stitched Shapes square, and the Floral Boutique DSP, the greeting from Dragonfly Dreams and tied off with Night of Navy Baker's Twine. Card 2, a Night of Navy dragonfly over some Falling in Love DSP, with a greeting from Beautiful You and the dots from Avant Garden.  Card 3 is the So Detailed Thinlits cut from Night of Navy and pieced onto Whisper White, the greeting from Avant Garden was cut with an oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelits, and backed with a Night of Navy diecut from Tags & Labels. I opted to tie a knot in each side of the greeting for this card.

The scrapbook page was totally inspired by the place I am lucky to be relaxing for a few weeks, Cromwell in Central Otago, NZ.  I chose the Tip Top Taupe floral design from  the 2015-17 In Colour DSP stack, but sponged over with Sahara Sand to blend in with the summer colours in the area, the crisp white would be ok for winter perhaps.  I then trimmed a sheet of the daisy design from Falling in Love DSP to finish the base. The title, using Large Letters, was die cut from another sheet from the same DSP and I used the negative for the first word.  The next word was cut from both Blushing Bride and Sahara Sand, and all were layered.  As were the dragonflies.  The map is hard to see in the photo but shows the area location on a map of NZ, along with facts on how long it will take you to travel here!

The 3D items were a little harder for me with the supplies on hand, so I opted to go with the tissue paper on a candle idea, along with a small calendar.  Beautiful You and Watercolor pencils, which I was lucky enough to receive for Christmas, teamed nicely with the new Delicate Details from Sale-a-bration. The relevance of the doily?  Check out the top of the candle, I trimmed one of the new lace doilies and inked with Night of Navy. (If I were to gift this, I would be mindful to ensure the recipient removed prior to igniting).

The calendar, I did have with me, and I constructed a backing and stand from the scrap card out of the DSP packs.  Floral Boutique DSP helped make the image and calendar stand out.

My final project was a trio of framed prints.  I found these frames in the back of the cupboard and they screamed Pacific Point and Mediterranean Moments at me... so thanks again Susan Nygaard, loving this set.  I only had 3 frames, but managed to use all images from the set, coloured with the same watercolor pencils, and just a light spritz with my Stampin' Spritzer.  Not enough to wet the thick Whisper White I had stamped on, but it made my colour soften just a tad...

Thanks for staying with me til the end...

Happy New Year

Goodness me, doesn't time fly!  Happy to New Year to anyone who has not given up on me due to my lack of blogging.  Being away from home does have its downsides, along with the fun stuff!

Today I wish to share with you the card I made for my lovely Mum.  Her birthday was last month and I chose to make a shaker card.  I liked the colours I had used for the last birthday card and stuck with them, Pink Pirouette for the base, matted with Sahara Sand.  The dragonflies were cut from the Blushing Bride Glimmer paper and stuck over the window. As you can see, I'm making the most of the Stitched Shapes Framelits as well. The greeting stamped with Sahara Sand is from Best Birds.

Wishing you all the best for 2017!

Busy Birthday Month

Although today's post is a little late, I liked how this card for a special young lady, turned out.  I saw a similar design online from Bluetenstempel and this is my take of it. I wanted a hint of colour so it may be misleading because the photo was taken on the Blushing Bride Glimmer paper, however the colours I chose were Pink Pirouette and Sahara Sand. All stamped images were from Touches of Texture. The Thinlits used were Rose Garden, Detailed Dragonfly, Stitched Shapes, along with some Layering Circles. The finishing touches were the rhinestone and the heart from the Subtles Enamel Shapes.

I decided against a greeting and opted to use her age for the inside:

Happy Mail

Recently I learned of a relation going through a bit and thought some happy mail was in order.  I also remembered seeing how bright and chirpy the "CASe the Designer" card Connie Collins had created for the Global Design Project #GDP064 this week was, and although I didn't look too closely into the colours she used, the idea was to be inspired by her card and this was what I came up with.

I have used the thick Whisper White as my card base and adhered Floral Boutique DSP.  I diecut the fetch of dragonflies from the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits out of my front piece of Whisper White, and again from Crushed Curry. The greeting is from the aptly named You've Got This stamp set. Finished with Night of Navy Baker's twine wrapped and tied with a bow. The whole piece and was raised with dimensionals and the dragonflies are also raised - just in the body of each.

On the inside, a simple diecut dragonfly and enough room for my message. I hope it makes her smile...
