Happy 5th Birthday Lillian!

We are not very good at sending cards to our extended family, but when I learned someone was starting school, I decided a special card was in order. Although it was a little late, I hope she enjoyed receiving this card.  It started off being a quick and easy card, but things got added as I went along!  Hard to tell what is going on, but it is a shaker card.  And as I do - created it the hard way!

My intention was to upcycle the foam left over after mounting my Reverse Words. I stamped Hooray in Melon Mambo onto my Thick Whisper White card base - then added the foam after removing the red rubber from it.  Popped in some sequins and added the acetate to hold my sequins in place.  I stamped Bella on Whisper White and fussy cut around half of her so I could get the Stiched Shapes oval die under her to cut the oval, and the same idea from the Melon Mambo mat.  The 5 was cut from Melon Mambo and Basic Black and I like how it hovers over the edge.  I could see a little foam which I didn't want, so popped a few flowers around the edge and some birthday bling, and added 5 balloons instead of the 1 Bella usually has. I see now I forgot to add more strings, but I don't think she'll mind too much.

The inside has another Bella image and greeting:

Challenge Entry for #GDP048

My preorder arrived for the new holiday catalogue (beginning 1 September) and in the back of my mind was the "Case the Designer" challenge over on Global Design Project. Check out Tania Kolar's original idea. The weather we are dealing with at the moment suited the new Merry Mice set, you'll have to wait to see the other images, but equally as cute! This time my mouse is singing Happy Birthday and I was trying to avoid colours that made him look like christmas which is how I ended up with the combination of Daffodil Delight and Perfect Plum, along with a touch of Tempting Turquoise. I was still in watercolour mode and used my aqua brush with marker pens.  Surprising how far a little bit of colour will go. I have used very vanilla and stamped the image in Basic Black archival ink. As you know, you can't use too much water or repeat brushing or your card will pill. You just have to be a little patient and let it dry if you need to add more depth. The background might suit those of you who feel they 'can't sponge properly', as I used a Touches of Texture stamp with Pool Party - check out the close up below along with how I added "2 U" (to complete the Happy Birthday song).  Balloons and greeting from Balloon Celebration and Balloon Builders. To finish off I aded some new Fancy Frost sequins.

Bermuda Bay Balloons

Another birthday card ready to go.  We made this at a recent workshop and the colour choice was very popular.  We used the thick Whisper White cardstock for the base, and Bermuda Bay as the contrasting colour.  The Confetti Stars Border punch provided some detail on the left hand side, then we stamped an image from Happy Home in the same Bermuda Bay ink, so it was more of a watermark than a feature.  The Balloon Celebration details were stamped on Whisper White and punched out with the Balloon Bouquet punch.  Some BB baker's twine dangled from each and the 'Happy' greeting from the Hello You thinlits was stapled to the front.  Birthday was stamped from Tin of Cards stamp set and added to the bottom. A fun easy card which would again look great in any colour choice.

Birthdays are Big

A little share of some of the items coming in the new occasions catalogue, released the same time as the Sale-a-bration catalgoue on 5 January.  A punch that cuts out these cute little balloons (available in a pack teamed with a candle and cupcake) and a great selection of cheerful designs available in the "It's My Party DSP Stack".  We had a special occasion to celebrate recently and this little owl fit the purpose nicely - 16 balloons for the occasion, and DSP inspired colours, were Crushed Curry, Mint Macaron, Sahara Sand and Melon Mambo.
